Recently Erling Haaland of Norway recorded his 45th goal of the season in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter final. The goal set a record for the most in a single season across all Premier League games. Haaland has been an extraordinary goal scorer since joining the club last summer. All told, Haaland has notched 30 of his goals in 27 Premier League contests, 11 in the Champions League, with the remaining four spread out in the League Cup and FA Cup. Only 22 years of age, Haaland has 21 goals for Norway in 23 games since 2019.

Switching gears to the NBA, the regular season has concluded, and the MVP vote is underway.
LeBron James has won the award four times and averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game this season. Steph Curry is a two-time winner of the award and dropped 29.4 points per game this season, to go along with over 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Despite their stellar seasons, the battle for MVP this year is between two-time defending winner Nikola Jokic, runner-up the last two years in Joel Embiid , and two-time winner Giannis Antetokounmpo.

While Jokic was a heavy favorite most of the season, Embiid has stormed to the front with stellar play over the past month. The Philadelphia 76ers’ center has won the Eastern Conference Player of the Month three times and led the league in scoring the past two seasons. He is the first center to win back-to-back scoring titles since Bob McAdoo in 1974-76. In addition, Embiid joins Moses Malone, McAdoo, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Walt Bellamy, and Wilt Chamberlain as the only centers to average at least 30 points per game in a season. Early voting counts have Embiid comfortably out in front of Jokic, with Antetokounmpo a close third.
